Get to Know Sara
How did you get your start in the jewelry business?
I was discovered on Etsy by Beadalon while I was in school to be a veterinary technician and running a small Etsy shop as a hobby.
What is your go-to travel jewelry?
My go-to travel jewelry items are simple diamond studs, classic hoops and a name necklace. These pieces work with anything!
What are your go-to gifts from JTV?
Anything from the Artisan of Bali Collection is a go-to gift.
What gives you the inspiration to design such unique pieces?
I am inspired by some of the most influential costume jewelry designers of all time. I love vintage Miriam Haskell designs, Elsa Schiaparelli who collaborated with Salvador Dali (WOW!), Coco Chanel and Alfred Philippe just to name a few. Coco Chanel once said, "The point of jewelry isn't to make a woman look rich but to adorn her; not the same thing." She encouraged women to mix their fine jewelry pieces with costume jewelry to create timeless looks that still influence jewelry fashion today. Elsa Schiaparelli's partnership with surrealist Salvador Dali mixed elite art into the jewelry design world creating a whole new world of ideas! I draw a lot of inspiration from these incredible fashion jewelry pieces from the 30s through the 60s.
What is your favorite gemstone to work with?
My favorite gemstone to work with is carnelian.
What is your process for designing jewelry?
I like to start with a color palette or a special bead, component or focal and design outwards from there. Music and snacks are a must!
