Frequently Asked Questions

Streaming is the ongoing delivery of video or audio, like movies or podcasts to your TV, phone or computer. Streaming is different from downloading since it can be a live broadcast or pre-recorded, and streaming media does not download or save anything to your personal device. Some streaming services offer a free array of channels and shows with less advertisement time than traditional TV.

Streaming on your TV may be as easy as browsing its menu or checking your remote. If you have a smart TV, it likely offers different streaming apps on it. If your TV does not have streaming apps or an option to download them, you may need a streaming device such as Apple TV, Roku or Amazon Fire.

Here are a few steps for setting up a streaming device if your TV needs one.

  1. After purchasing a streaming device, plug it into your TV and power source.
  2. Connect your audio device to your WiFi or internet connection by selecting its name and typing in your password.
  3. WiFi not working? You can also connect an ethernet cord from your router to your streaming device to receive an internet connection.

To find local over-the-air broadcasts, you can scan for TV channels. Scanning for TV channels  may require you to connect your TV antenna to your TV. Once connected, you can use your TV's menu to scan for available channels. Depending on your TV, you may need to select the type of antenna you are using (indoor or outdoor) and the type of signal you are looking for (analog or digital). Once the scan is complete, you will be able to view available channels.

To scan for local over-the-air broadcasts, look for an auto-scan feature on your TV. This feature can be used to scan for local broadcast channels. To access this feature, you will need to consult your TV’s user manual to determine how to access the auto-scan menu. Once you've accessed the menu, you can follow the on-screen instructions to scan for local channels.

To view JTV broadcasts through local over-the-air channels, use our JTV Channel Finder above and type in your zip code.

A list of channels under different network providers will appear. Be sure to view the channel number under your network provider before typing in its channel number on your TV remote. JTV’s Channel Finder will also list what days and what hours of the day it will broadcast.
