These Queensland Boulder Opals are natural opals Type 2 with a body tone N1 and can be described as exceptionally bright. They were mined at the Hopal lease, Vergemont station, Queensland, Australia in 1978. It is very rare to find top, gem quality boulder opal with the full complement of desirable attributes this set possesses. This distinctiveness is further multiplied by their substantial size and superb match. Certainly worthy of a distinctive name, we have chosen to call this set "Volcanic Fire" as we envision a blazing fire erupting from a volcanic mountain. Best viewed or mounted vertically, as it would be displayed in a pendant, the bottom portion of the larger elongated stone displays an ample amount of green color, which we have imagined to be the mountain. The larger, upper portion of the rectangle tapers very slightly and displays predominately red colors in a brush stroke, flame-like pattern, replicating the volcano's eruption. The super brilliance of the colors only intensifies the viewer's experience. The smaller free-form triangular shape gem matches so well in color and pattern that it is as if it was lifted from the crater of the very same mountain. These two boulders exemplify a beautiful brush stroke pattern. The strokes are evenly distributed throughout both pieces, flowing from one to the other. Not only does the pattern compliment each opal, but it augments their rarity as they are a near perfect match in pattern to one another, a rare occurrence in nature. Primarily red multi-colored, both gems display all the colors of the spectrum simultaneously - even without stone movement and from every conceivable angle. This ensemble displays rich intense red color as well as vibrant green and underlying Prussian blue with a perfect harmony of color play.
