Product Information
Australian Lightning Ridge black opal 4.33ct 12.05x11.07x5.10mm oval cabochon with flashfire play of color pattern. The gemstone was mined and cut in Australia. The stone has been appraised by Craig Lynch G.G. for $11,090.00.

A broad flash pattern such as the one seen in this striking opal receives a premium in the market. The stone is peppered with blue, green and yellow, but it is the predominant red color that makes this gem a must-have for any collector! The colors almost appear to be painted on the stone and are the eye-catching characteristic of this opal. The flat-top cut displays the pattern and the coloring remarkably well in the black body of this gem. Included with this magnificent black opal is a Craig Lynch appraisal with an estimated retail replacement value of $11,090.

Ancient Roman scholar and author Pliny the Elder once wrote "There is in them a softer fire than the Ruby, there is the brilliant purple of the Amethyst, and the sea green of the Emerald - all shining together in incredible union..." What a magnificent tribute to Opal, often called the Queen of Gems. Prized for its unique and fiery play of color phenomenon, no opal is more treasured than black opal, especially those found in the Lightning Ridge mining fields of southeastern Australia. After precious black opals were discovered there in the early 20th century, Lightning Ridge quickly became the world's major source of the finest black opal. The most coveted of all opal varieties, black opal is called the "king of opals". Its dark background color sets the spectral colors ablaze, much like a storm cloud behind a rainbow. Today, the Lightning Ridge fields yield little of these precious opals, which has only led to its increased desirability among collectors across the globe.
