Worked great for me
I don't have a clue why this item has such a low rating. I had 3 of them come in the mail today. Already set two of them. No problems. Going back for some more.

Nice Gemtite Pendant Casting
I hesitated to buy this pendant casting because the customer rating was low. I regret waiting because I was able to set my mystic topaz in this setting with no trouble whatsoever! It clicked into place beautifully. It really looks nice on JTV's SS snake chain. I plan to buy more of these castings as I gave this one to my daughter as a gift.

I was leary....
Because of all the bad reviews I was afraid to try this snap-fit casting. All is well though,it worked as advertised.I think if you don't try to press past the girdle of the stone you will be pleased to know it works fine.I'm happy and glad I tried it.

Good pendant
I have mounted gems in many of these pendants and found that you do need some patients. You first need a calibrated stone until you get good. Put the stone table or face side down on a paper towel. Then very gently put your pendant down on the stone but do not push yet. You want to make sure the pendant is aligned up with the oval of the stone and not crooked, so it is centred. Then push enough to see how much the prongs are spreading out, but still do not push the pendant on yet. You want the prongs bent in just enough to spring open over the gem and hold like a spring. If you push the pendant to hard you cant control your strength and you end up pushing to hard and this pushes the gem to far down the prongs causing them to spring open more. Then the stone falls out --GENTLY push the pendant only enough to barely pop over the gem you should hear a click. If the gem is loose take it out and bend your prongs in evenly all the way around a little more than what is was before and try again. I got good enough that i can bend the prongs and mount un- calibrated or even one size smaller or bigger stones in any of JTTVs settings. It just takes a little time a patients. I even change stones in my wife's settings pop them out re-adjust the prongs and pop in a different color or type of stone. ONLY PUSH HARD ENOUGH TO BARELY SPREAD THE PRONGS OVER THE GEM and hear a click - to hard and you just sprang the prongs open to far and the gem will be loose or fall out. Remember you can bend the prongs in and try again and again, Hope this helps someone.

does not take a jewler to make a beautiful pendant

nice setting
I ordered the wrong size for the stone I wanted to set. But this is a good piece to have on hand when I need it. It is a good weight, and it is the easy set type.

Not quite as easy to set as advertised.
I'm struggling with snap-tite settings overall. This one seemed a little more difficult to set than some smaller ones.

Too Lightweight for larger gems
Gemtite castings are great when they work. However, as the size increases, it seems that the prongs are not strong enough to hold a larger stone. This causes the stone to tip and slide out, or the pressure forces the prongs out of alignment. I tried to mount a large topaz, to no avail. Fearing that a prong might snap off, I finally succeeded in mounting a less expensive gem. However, the prongs are not evenly distributed around the gem causing the gem to be slightly skewed. This problem needs to be addressed. I believe that the castings for larger stones be redesigned, either by adding more prongs or thickening them.
