As we first learned of a new alluvial find of color change garnets in Tanzania in 2011, we decided to buy as many as possible. We then partnered with a trusted supplier to buy as much available rough as possible as it was found on a daily basis. We advised our supplier to facet these rare gemstones cleanly and with very good proportions. It was one of JTV's homeruns of recent years. We knew the historical rarity of these exotic garnets but even we were surprised to learn this exciting new supply was virtually mined out in less than a year. Today, these color change garnets remain in high demand. Any gem over 1 carat is rare and more than 5 carats is super rare. This lovely weighs in at an impressive 7.05 carats, making it so very collectible for all the reasons listed above!
