Emerald's luxuriant green hues have calmed spirits and inspired imaginations since the days of old. The most valuable, and best known, member of the Beryl family, Emerald has been treasured by mankind for thousands of years and coveted by kings, queens, emperors and monarchs. It has long been a symbol of power, wealth and status.
There are few gemstones which command as much desire and passion as Emerald. In the first century A.D., Pliny the Elder, the ancient Roman scholar, described Emerald in his book, Natural History. He wrote “…nothing greens greener…” than this long-cherished gem. Recorded history indicates it was the favorite gem of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. Even wars have raged over this treasured stone.
Knowing the passion and desire that Emerald evokes, Jewelry Television is excited to carry Eternity Natural Emeralds®. Using a 21st century enhancement process, our manufacturer is able to make a natural Emerald more stable, i.e. more durable, and easy to wear without constant concern for the well-being of the stone. And, most importantly of all, the process simply accentuates the natural beauty of the Emerald.
With Eternity Natural Emeralds®, we can assure our customers of consistently fine quality Emeralds at the fantastic prices they have come to expect from Jewelry Television for the past 19+ years.
There are few gemstones which command as much desire and passion as Emerald. Treasured for thousands of years, it has long been a symbol of power, wealth and status. Using a 21st century enhancement process, our Eternity Natural Emerald manufacturer developed an exclusive process that is able to make a natural Emerald more stable, i.e. more durable, and easy to wear without constant concern for the well-being of the stone. And, most importantly of all, the process simply accentuates the natural beauty of the Emerald. Each Eternity Natural Emerald's beauty is guaranteed for life by our manufacturer, an unprecedented guarantee never before available in the sale of natural Emeralds. Until now, Emeralds could never be cleaned by placing them in ultrasonic cleaners or under steam for fear of damaging the stones in some way. Now, you can rest assured there will be no adverse effects! Beauty... allure... desirability... an Eternity Natural Emerald from JTV has it all!
All natural, our Eternity Natural Emeralds® brand places the spotlight on one of the most desirable gems in the world. Some may ask what makes these gems different from other Emeralds seen in the market. Eternity Natural Emeralds® feature the ExCel® process, the world’s first colorless and stable clarity enhancement. It is an organic polymer created specifically for Emeralds. Emerald origins include Zambia, Colombia and Afghanistan. A large percentage of our Eternity Natural Emerald® inventory is Zambian in origin.
Zambian emeralds are of very high quality. Although Zambia has the world’s second largest emerald deposit, it is substantially underdeveloped and primarily restricted to artisanal mines in remote northern Zambia. As basic hand tools are mainly used to mine Zambian emerald, this limits supply, increasing its rarity and value.
Colombian emeralds are known for their vivid green colors and are usually of exceptional quality. Colombia is, by tradition and lore, the finest modern source for emeralds. With each comprised of many individual mines, the three historically significant areas for Colombian emerald mining are Muzo, Cosquez and Chivor.
One of the world’s leading emerald experts, ENE®’s own Arthur Groom, feels that Afghanistan may well become the future of the world emerald industry. Its high, remote mountain ranges have “incredible resources”. He says “the Afghani goods tend to be a little better, a little brighter and a little cleaner” than those from other traditional sources.
Since ancient times, Emeralds have been known to display eye visible fissures. To mask these features, ancient gem purveyors discovered they could mask the fissures by immersing Emeralds in oil – similar to the effect one would get if they wet a pebble. And the practice of enhancing Emeralds continues today. An estimated 99% of all Emeralds have been enhanced by one means or another.
In the early 1900s, rapeseed oil, from which canola oil is derived, was used. Later, it was replaced with linseed oil, a drying oil derived from dried flax seeds. Not until 1962 did a new enhancement appear - cedarwood oil. More recently, Emerald enhancement has involved a series of new enhancements, with each new enhancement superior to its predecessor. Some enhancements such as Palma oil (which isn’t from palm trees but a synthetic substance that became popular in the 1980s), cedarwood oil and Opticon (developed by Shell Oil to repair marble flooring) worked well but discolored or dried out. Others are removed and destroyed when an Emerald is cleaned. And most importantly, none of the enhancements could withstand normal cleaning (i.e. steam cleaning or ultrasonic baths).
Jewelers learned that cleaning Emeralds with unstable enhancements made cleaning a risky business. Soon they were telling their customers that Emeralds were fragile. It is not the Emeralds that are fragile--but their enhancements. If an Emerald is unenhanced or enhanced with a quality product, it is not fragile. Today, the ExCel® process has been proclaimed the best available and the only one guaranteed not to fade, discolor, deteriorate or dry out.
Until now, Emeralds could never be placed in ultrasonic cleaners for fear of damaging the stone in some way. Now with Eternity Natural Emeralds®, rest assured the stones can be steam cleaned and/or put into an ultrasonic bath with no adverse effects! Our customers can now experience owning Emeralds without inheriting the fear of cleaning them.
Each stone comes with its own unique verification report from Gemworld International, a world-renowned independent gemological company. The card provides specific details about your specific stone, including shape, measurements, carat weight and enhancement method. It also includes the unique identification number that has been lasered onto the girdle of each emerald, making each emerald instantly identifiable.
• It allows you to match your gemstone with the verification report that has been provided by GemWorld, an independent gemological laboratory.
• It provides you with grading information and photography that you can supply to your insurance company.
• It also gives you a precise means of identification should your stone be lost or stolen.
The Gemological Institute of America, the world’s foremost authority on colored gemstones, diamonds and pearls, states that a good filling substance should have the following properties:
• It should hide fissures
• It should flow into fractures
• It should hold up over time (or be easy to restore)
• It should be removable (or have no properties that might later harm the stone)
• It should have a refractive index (R.I.) similar to that of the Eternity Natural Emeralds® meet each of the above standards, as determined by G.I.A.
1. “I didn’t know that emeralds were enhanced. Why?”
Emeralds have been enhanced for thousands of years dating back to the time of Cleopatra. This is done to mask the fissures that are naturally present. The enhancements have changed over the years, but it is still routinely done today to 99% of all emeralds.
2. “What makes Eternity Natural Emeralds® better than the others you carry?”
