This stone has a crack, scratches, and black marks. Fortunately these are not visible with the naked eye. It seems when I buy a stone it is always in this condition. I think it's my fault - I shouldn't have bought a loupe! I will keep this stone however because the rutiles are very nice and the stone is not cloudy, and you never know if you will get a cloudy rutilated quartz or not. I may make a ring with it someday.

Rated 5 out of 5 by supernurse I bought two of these...
...on the auction site to use as post earrings for my daughter-in-law, who graduated from the rival high school and has school colors of black and gold. I'm hoping my jeweler can set them in a black setting, but won't know for sure until I visit his shop. One of the stones is slightly paler than the other, but on opposite sides of the head I'm hoping it won't be noticeable.

Sadly once this arrived I could immediately see that this stone was a poor example of a rutilated quartz. I can count 7 rutiles all located in the NE corner of the stone leaving 75% rutile free and filled wih inclusions. At the end of the rutiles are black deposits which appear to block the rutile's growth. There are also numerous black deposits in the SE corner of the stone. All these flaws are clearly visible to the eye without a loop. Cannot use for gift jewelry, too late to return due to delivery date over 30 days from purchase. Got me JTV!
