Presidium Duo Tester

The Presidium Duo Tester is the only comprehensive tool on the market that combines two proven testing methods for gemstones. The PDT differentiates diamonds from its simulants based on both their thermal conductivity and reflective indexes. Coated gemstones can also be generally tested with the PDT. This unit includes a retractable probe tip that ensures consistent pressure against the gemstone during testing for more reliable results. With the industries thinnest probe tip size of 0.6mm, PDT tests gemstones as small as 0.02ct. Note: Does not differentiate between natural and synthetic colored gemstones. The Presidium Duo Tester is a further developed product than the Presidium Gem Tester (PGT), by far the most popular of all Presidium Instruments. The Duo Tester combines in a single unit the functions of thermal conductivity and reflectivity measurement. Thermal Conductivity Measurement makes use of the fact that diamond conducts heat better than any other material, and it is foreseen that no other substance whether natural or synthetic, will ever be comparable with diamond in this respect. Other properties of diamond, such as its high refractive index, can be closely matched by other materials and they are, therefore, less useful identifying this gemstone. Reflectivity Measurement makes use of the fact that diamond and its simulants reflect light proportionally to their respective refractive index, harness and perfection of polish. Operates thru a 120v power adapter or 5 AA batteries. Alkaline batteries should be used as they have a life of approximately 4 hours of continuous use.
