When I purchased Kyanite gemstones, there was a warning not to use metal tweezers. Does that extend to these titanium tweezers also?

I haven't noticed that JTV sells any nonmetal tweezers.

Answer:
Hi there- Titanium is definitely classified as a metal, and it is harder than standard tweezers. However, there are a number of non- metallic tweezers that are made- including plastic; check Jewel School to see if they carry any of them. If not, contact Customer Support to see if they are carried and/ or when they will be back in stock. If none of these work out for you, non- metallic tweezers are sold at a variety of jewelry or craft making stores. I hopes this helps!

Answer:
The hardness of kyanite gems is just 4.5. Generally speaking a stone with a hardness of just 4.5 is not very suitable for making jewelry. Because of its hardness, kyanite should be used in earrings or pendants instead of rings. Single gemstones should be handled with wooden tweezers because kyanite scratches very easily.. You can google "wooden tweezers" and find several sites that sell them.

Answer:
The reason for not using metal tweezers on kyanite is that it's Mohs hardness scale is only 4.5-6.5. It is better to use it in earrings or a necklace in stead of a ring. Kyanite is unique in that it varies in hardness along its horizontal and vertical axis. Wooden tweezers are preferred. you may be able to purchase wooden tweezers in a craft store.
