The GemVue handheld polariscope is one of a series of tools that assist in gemstone and mineral identification. This tool is used in conjunction with other gem tools to narrow the range of possibilities when identifying stones and minerals. The primary purpose of this tool is to determine the optic character. Gemstones and minerals exhibit different structural forms. Some may be singly refractive, doubly refractive, or an aggregate of numerous microscopically small crystals. Each of these structures responds differently when viewed through a polariscope. This is a valuable tool for any gem enthusiast. Requires 2 AA batteries (not included). Includes zippered protective carrying case.

Where can I get replacement bulbs?

I bought my polariscope a few years ago but the bulb blew out and I can't find where to get more. Unless I can get a new bulb, the device is no good to me and that is very disappointing since I want to take a GIA course in gemology.]

Answer:
I was just reading the reviews of this item...as I apparently got a "bad" one...my bulb blew out after looking at 3 gemstones. Anyway, one of the reviewers said that Radio Shack has replacement bulbs.

Answer:
I don't own this, but if this is a regular flashlight, have you tried a local hardware store? I have a small flashlight and got bulbs at Home Depot. Try Home Depot, Lowes, Ace or even Walgreens.

Answer:
I would use the diamond tester,I have for years and it works great, also it's useful to have a moissanite tester too,'cause you never know, and both test have uv light (black light),a lot of real diamonds have fluorescence, while fake and moissanite, doesn't,also a good way to find out.Hope this help.

Answer:
I test diamonds with a diamond tester. Most diamonds are mounted and the diamond tester works very well. The Polariscope is good if you have lose gems or diamonds.

Call JTV and ask or maybe go to internet and search Gemvue. Many times you can get manuals over the net. Good luck!
