Your Gemtite castings should just cup the girdle of the stone. You should never have to, or try to, cut the prongs of a Gemtite setting. GemSavvy semi-mounts have longer prongs and require tools, such as the Casting kit for proper mounting. But Gemtite should be just the right size to hold your stone perfectly. If the prongs of a Gemtite casting come up over the crown the setting is too big for the stone. But don't try to remove the stone yourself if you have already set it! You need the right tool and expertise to do that without damaging the stone and/or casting. If you have a stone that fits in a Gemtite casting like that, I would hold off on wearing it and take it to my professional jeweler for assistance. The stone and the casting need to be the correct size for each other, and a calibrated stone is easy to fit with the line of Gemtite castings available at JTV.
