I ordered some stones that came with earring castings. I saw how to "set" the stones into the castings - but only once. Would you please explain

how it is done. Does it require a special surface to work on? So far I have failed miserably and am frustrated with my inability to figure this out!!!!

Answer:
Simply take the stone and set in on a level surface(table)Make sure the face of the stone is down and that the pointed part is UP facing you. Take the Casting and put the opening over the stone and gently but firmly push down-you should hear a "click". You have set you stone! Enjoy.

Answer:
Place the stone to be set "table side" (the top or flat surface of the stone) down. Press the casting firmly down onto the stone until you head a snap. You may have to do a little adjusting to be sure the prongs are tight. I use a piece of cloth on the kitchen table when I set my stones. The surface is firm, but doesn't scratch the stone.

Answer:
Oh Sue I had no problem setting 2 different ones and just used a place mat the kind that is sort of rubbery it seems to hold the stones upside down well. I would think it could be a problem with a smooth surface. Just set the stone upside down and push the casting down on them till it snaps. What stone are you using? I would think a cabashon stone would give you a problem. We used faceted round cut stones.

Answer:
I did nothing special other than I laid the stone point up on the liner from one of the jewelry boxes they ship items in. Then made sure the casting was straight pressed down firmly and the casting made a little "snap" noise and the stone was set. I just used the liner because it was firm but covered with a soft material to protect the stone. Hope this helps

Answer:
Hi, Suz. I apologize for the frustration. The easiest way to snap the gems into place is to put the gemstone on a smooth, even surface--like your counter top--with the gemstone table face down. This should leave the gemstone standing on its own, pointy side up. Carefully position the casting over the culet of the gemstone (the pointy end) to where the casting's prongs appear to be evenly spaced around the gem. I do this by slowly lowering the casting over the culet of the stone until it meets the resistance of the larger part of the stone and stops on its own without me forcing it. Keeping a firm hold on the casting's stem, but making sure my fingers to not extend down over the prongs, I firmly but quickly "snap" the casting over the gem. The prongs should snap easily around the girdle of the gem because the firm surface of the counter top keeps the space from the girdle to the table empty, allowing the prongs to snap into place.

I hope this helps.
