The artform process is an intricate and costly method of jewelry production and allows designers to create big, bold pieces with more unique sculptural designs that are impossible to make by casting or stamping. The process begins with a wax mandrill, which is cut and ground to the exact image of the piece of jewelry being made. A conductive paint is then put on the wax, which is then attached to wire racks with a screw. The wax form is then immersed in a silver bath that allows the silver to adhere to the mandrill until the desired thickness is achieved. Once removed from the silver bath, the screw is removed, leaving a small hole, which goes all the way through the silver to the wax core. The piece is then heated to a temperature that will melt the wax but not the silver, causing the molten wax out of the hole left by the screw, leaving a beautiful piece of silver jewelry. The piece is then polished and treated with an anti-tarnish and is then ready to be worn. Although more costly and labor-intensive that other forms of jewelry production, this process creates lightweight items that allows our manufacturer to achieve big, bold designs at extremely affordable prices.
