This liquid creates a film between the hemicylinder of the refractometer and the gemstone, allowing an accurate reading. 10 gram bottle with RI of 1.81. Use only in well ventilated conditions. Wear eye protection and protective clothing. Harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed. This item cannot be shipped to a post office box and cannot be returned. Any unused portion must be disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations governing chemical substances.

I think you can only use this to check on the nature of stones,not metal,because it gives you the refractive index of them,and you match them on the chart,but I'm not 100% sure,so I would call customer service and find out for sure.Hope this help.

No, this is used to test the refractive index of gemstones, which helps identify what the gemstone is. This has to be used with a Refractometer. JTV does not carry the liquids you are seeking.

The simple answer is: no. RFI fluid is used to provide an optical contact between a gem stone and the hemicylinder of a Refractometer. Utilizing a light beam (normally in the back of the Refractometer), one looks through the Ocular of the Refractomerer,reads the line between light and dark on the scale, thus is able to determine the refractive index of a gemstone.
However, with a metal, the light is unable to pass through.
